Wells Fargo formalized its Google Cloud Agentspace integration in early 2025, while HSBC took a notably different tack in December 2025, signing a multi-year partnership with European AI lab Mistral AI. That move is being watched closely: Mistral's open-weight model architecture offers HSBC greater data sovereignty flexibility, a concern that looms large for a bank operating under regulatory regimes across 60+ countries.
Why Multi-Vendor, and Why Now
The strategic logic behind vendor diversification is straightforward, even if the execution is not. A single-vendor AI stack creates dependency risk — both in pricing leverage and in capability gaps as the model landscape evolves rapidly.
